The likeable long-distance runner has now ended his active professional career, but continues to motivate and inspire thousands of runners. With a marathon best of 2:12:15 hours, he was one of the best marathon runners in his generation and flew the German flag at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
